Betty Wright Bohnert passed to a new life September 15, 2009. She was born to Ovid and Charlotte (Norton) Wright March 21, 1930 near Little Rock, Arkansas.

Betty came to California in 1933 with her family and spent her childhood in and around the Merced area. She was the last of a long line of children and was loved beyond belief by her mother and her older brothers. She loved the Lord, prayed often, and was filled with the love of God. That tremendous love was shared with all who knew her.

Betty attended Athlone, Franklin, John Muir Elementary Schools and graduated from Merced High School in 1948 with honors receiving the Commercial Student of the Year award. She began her career at Safeco Title Insurance the week after graduation using the business skills she acquired at MHS. In 1949 Betty met Clyde Bohnert through the efforts of her friends, Clyde's two sisters, and they were married September 2, 1950. Clyde and Betty moved to Chowchilla in 1952 to begin a new life and start a family. Betty went to work for the general manager of San Joaquin Cotton Oil Mill shortly after moving to Chowchilla. During her career she worked for The Chowchilla Jr. Fair, Chow Fed Cattle Co. and ended her career as the business manager at Chowchilla Union High School, retiring in 1992. Her work ethic was impeccable and she was always showered with praise for her efforts and skills. At the high school Betty was "Mom" to hundreds of kids and young teachers. She always had the time to listen to any problem and give teenagers a safe place to share their troubles and triumphs. There was no problem too big or too small for Mom. Her hugs were never ending and her advice always spot on. Her own daughters benefited from that love and advice more than anyone. Their dad could fix anything that was broken and their mom could mend any broken heart with a hug, a kiss and loving words.

No family dinner was complete without an apricot pie or her delicious potato salad. She loved the color green and anyone visiting her home knew it! Daffodils were her favorite flowers and her sweet tooth could never be satisfied. She never left the house without looking like a million bucks. Until the very end she was worried about her hair and make-up. That was Mom!

Clyde and Betty moved back to Merced in 1999 to the house of their dreams. After 51 years of marriage Clyde passed away leaving Betty broken hearted, something she was never quite able to over come. She was no longer able to enjoy her home and went to live in a retirement community where her needs could be met.

Her family wants to thank those at Paramount Park in Turlock for the wonderful love and care she received. Denise and "her girls", as Betty referred to her caregivers in the memory unit, are angels on this Earth. We will always be thankful for the care and love they bestowed upon her. They allowed her to pass through this phase of her life with dignity, something that this disease tried so hard to rob from her.

Betty was a past member of both the First Baptist Church of Merced and Chowchilla, California Association of School Business Officials, Eastern Star and the VFW Axillary.

Betty was preceded in death by her soul mate Clyde, her parents, 7 brothers and 4 sisters. She is survived by her daughters Susan Avelar and husband Larry of Atwater, and Julie Abraham and her husband Glenn of Las Vegas, NV. She's also survived by the grandchildren she adored and who adored their Bebe, Ryan Avelar of Merced, Kacey Avelar of Livingston, Desiree' Avelar of Lafayette, CA, Stephen and Michael Abraham of San Luis Obispo, CA. She also leaves many nieces, nephews and friends.

Betty has not been herself in last several years, and has not seen many of you for quite some time, but down deep she has never forgotten her wonderful friends and loved ones. She lives on in all of us.

A private service and burial will be held. Donations can be made to the The Lewey Body Dementia Association, 912 Killian Hill Road SW, Suite 202C Atlanta, GA 30047 or to a charity of the donor's choice in Betty's memory.
