RALEIGH - Roy W. Turgeon, Jr., 55 died suddenly on Thursday, March 29, 2001. Roy was born in Pittsburgh, PA on September 19, 1945 to Roy Turgeon and Evalyne M.Turgeon. He received his BA in English from North Georgia College, and a MA in History from Georgia State University, an MA in Communication Arts from the University of Notre Dame and earned a Principal's Certificate at NCSU where he was inducted into the academic honor fraternity Phi Kappa Phi. He was a 24 years career officer in the U.S.Army. He was an Airborne Ranger and served in combat units in Korea and Vietnam. He and his family were stationed in Germany. Mr. Turgeon was a graduate of The Command and General Staff College and the U.S.Army War College, and also was Commandant of Cadets, U.S. Army ROTC at Notre Dame. He retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1991. For his service to the country he was awarded two Bronze Stars, a Purple Heart and a Meritorious Service medal with oak leaf clusters and the CIB.

Mr. Turgeon moved to Raleigh in 1991 and is currently principal of St.Therese Catholic School in Wilson, NC. He was a devoted husband and father who enjoyed watching his three daughters participate in sports, especially soccer. His hobbies included reading, writing, baseball, poetry, soccer, classic country music and golf.

A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Cathedral. Burial will follow in Montlawn Memorial Park.

Surviving are his wife, Marilyn E. Turgeon; daughters, Kate Turgeon- Watson and her husband, Brandon of Columbus, GA, Emily Maureen Turgeon and Natalie Elizabeth Turgeon both of the home; mother, Evalyne McDine Turgeon of Columbus, GA; brother, T.J. Turgeon of New York, NY; granddaughter, Sara-Hale Watson.
