William C. HARTMAN Is Killed in Action on January 16th

Friends and relatives were grieved Sunday when word was received from the war department that William Cicero HARTMAN, the son of Mr. and Mrs. J. T. HARTMAN of Forgan, Oklahoma, was killed in action on January 16, 1945.

Sgt. William Cicero HARTMAN was born October 7, 1907 at Lepington, N. C. He received his elementary school training there. He moved with his parents from N. C. to Maple Hill, Kansas in November 1920 and then to Carter, Arkansas in 1934. On February 21, 1937 they moved to Forgan, Oklahoma.

He was employed at the Lebo garage at the time he was inducted into the army on December 26, 1942.

Sgt. HARTMAN was sent from Ft. Sill to Camp Howze, Texas where he received his basic training, but on a later date was sent to Camp Claiborne, La., on maneuvers and from there was sent to Fort Meade, Md., where he was shipped overseas to Italy on March 16, 1944. At the time of his death he was serving with Co. 17th Infantry.

Besides his parents, Sgt. HARTMAN leaves four sisters; Mrs. Dean RIGGS of Forgan, Oklahoma; Mrs. Floyd MEAD of Swanton, Ohio; Mrs. B. L. NIELSEN of Omaha, Nebraska, and Mrs. Chas. GROSS of Hickory, N. C. He also leaves three brothers: Pfc. Frank HARTMAN of the 363 Infantry in Italy; Lee and James of Wichita, Kansas.

The entire community extends its sympathy to the members of Sgt. HARTMAN's family.
