The son of Otho Wilson Broughman and Ida Mae Wickline, Charles was born in Alderson and grew up in Beckley, West Virginia. He came to Huntington about 1925. There he met Alma I. LeGrand and they were married in Catlettsburg, Kentucky in 1926. They had one daughter, Gloria J. Broughman.
Charles was a plumber by trade and worked for many years for Huntington Piping. On the morning of Sept. 17th, while at work, he was feeling ill and was rushed to the hospital by his co-workers. He passed away at Cabell-Huntington Hospital from a heart attack.
