OTTUMWA - Archie King McBeth, 80, of 215 Elmdale, died at 3:05 a.m. June 5, 1999, at Ottumwa Regional Health Center.
He was born Jan. 15, 1919, in Martinsburg to Zac and Estella Yeoman McBeth. He married Patricia Iren McCombs Feb. 21, 1953. She died June 4, 1999.
He graduated from Martinsburg High School. He served with the Army during World War II. He farmed and was an employee of John Deeere Ottumwa Works for 30 years, retiring in 1976.
He was a member of Free Methodist Church and a former member of First Church of the Nazarene, where he had served on the board and as a deacon. He was also a member of John Deere Retirees, where he served as a chaplain and a member of the Wapello County Association for Retarded Children.
He is survived by five daughters, Peggy Walker of Hedrick, Connie Ward of Fremont, Carolyn Ekwall of Cedar Rapids, Shirley Besco of Eddyville and Nita Berger of Franklin N.C.; a son, Tom McBeth of Ottumwa, 15 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Denver McBeth of Newton, and Firman McBeth of Martinsburg; and two sisters, Alma Terrell of Seymour and Hazel Shafer of Cedar Rapids.
He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Patricia Ann McBeth, four brothers, Lawrence, Hessel, Roland and Andrew McBeth; and three sisters, Irene Beckner, Ida Belle Samuels and Lucille Blevins.
There will be a joint service for Archie and Patricia McBeth at 2 p.m. today at Reece Funeral Home in Ottumwa with the Revs. Joseph Shimko and Grover Branson officiating. Burial will be in Helms Cemetery near Fremont. Military services will be conducted by Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars and O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion.
Pallbearers will be his grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Tenco and Bloomfield Care Center.
