WRENTHAM — Mary Louise (Donovan) Silva, of Wrentham, where she has lived for four years, died Friday, Aug. 20, 2010 at the Maples Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Wrentham, surrounded by her family. She was 91.

Born in Boston, she was the daughter of the late Joseph P. and Catherine L. (Connelly) Donovan Sr. Raised in Dorchester, she graduated from St. Peter's School in 1932, Dorchester High School in 1936, and the former Boston Clerical School in 1939.

A former 60-year resident of Provincetown, she had worked at the Mass Co-operative Bank from 1939 through 1948, when she married Francis Silva and moved to the Cape. After 10 years as a homemaker, she worked for Benson Insurance Agency. Following her retirement in 1982, she worked for Eastern National in their bookstore at the Provincetown Visitors Center.

She had been the president of the Dorchester High Alumnae, the first director of the Insurance Women of Cape Cod, and served on many town boards in Provincetown, including the Zoning Board of Appeals, School Committee, and the Board of Health.

She was a communicant of St. Peter the Apostle Church in Provincetown, serving as a lector, Eucharistic Minister, a member of the Homebound Ministry, and was secretary to the Parish Council.

She received the Marian Medal in 1984, from then Bishop Sean O'Malley. In her later years, she moved to Wrentham, and was a member of St. Mary's Church in Wrentham.

Wife of the late Francis Silva, she was the mother of Pauline Chute and her husband Donald of Wrentham, and Patricia Benatti and her husband Paul of Provincetown. Sister of the Margaret Tucker of Groveland, Catherine Burgoyne of Foxboro, and the late Joseph P. Donovan Jr. She is also survived by her two grandsons, Michael Chute of Provincetown, and Richard Chute of Wrentham.

A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 24, 2010, from the Gately Funeral Home, 94 Harry Kemp Way, Provincetown, at 9:30 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. at St. Peter the Apostle Church, 11 Prince St., Provincetown, with Fr. Henry Dahl, Pastor, officiating. Burial will be in St. Peter Cemetery.

Visiting hours at the R. J. Ross Funeral Home, 135 South St., Wrentham, will be on Monday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the charity of one's choice.
