Otis M. Wessels, 81, Strawn, died at 7:05 a.m. Thursday (July 3, 2008) at Gibson Area Hospital, Gibson City.
Mr. Wessels was born Jan. 19, 1927, in rural Fairbury, the son of John F. and Viola (Knoll) Wessels. He married Gladys Ruth Adam on Feb. 22, 1953, in Sibley. She survives in Fairbury.
Other survivors include a son, David (Marlys) Wessels, Decatur; a daughter, Linda (Philip) Corban, Pontiac; a son, Doug (Dorothy) Wessels, Forrest; one sister, Maxine Dassow, Chatsworth; and six grandchildren, Katrina Jo Wessels, Decatur; Jenifer Corban, Warrensburg; Michael Corban, Pontiac; and Danny, Rachael and Mitchell Wessels, all of Forrest.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Mr. Wessels attended Walton School in Fairbury through the fourth grade, moving with his family in 1935 to Pontiac Township, where he attended the one-room Jordan Country School through the eighth grade and graduated from Pontiac Township High School in 1944. He served in the U.S. Army-Air Force from 1945 to 1946, after which he farmed west of Pontiac, moving to Fayette Township in 1955.
Otis was a member of United Methodist Church of Strawn, then Cropsey. From 1947, he was a member of Livingston County Farm Bureau.
