Rev. H. D. Wagner conducted last rites for John J. Thompson. 83, town of Maplehurst, Saturday at the Alliance Church, Owen. The 2 p.m. ceremony was followed by burial at Riverside Cemetery.
Mr. Thompson died last Thursday at his home after suffering a stroke. He had been a resident of Taylor County for 34 years.
Born in Louisa, KY, in 1872, the son of John and Jane Chapman Thompson. He married Beatrice Diamond in the same city Aug. 9, 1901. They moved to Rock Island, IL about 1914. Mr. Thompson moved to Taylor County in March, 1921, and to his home at Maplehurst in 1922, where he pursued a farming career.
He is survived by his widow and four children, Herbert, Withee; Orville and Arlie of Owen, and Mrs. Wesley Siggelkow, Withee. Others surviving are a sister-in-law, Mrs Fannie Thompson, Louisa, KY, and 13 grandchildren.
Pallbearers for Mr. Thompson were Howard Blazer, James Larsen, Jack Kaczor, Roy Murphy, Bruno Schindler and Richard Giera.
Coming from out of town to attend the rites were Mrs. Fannie Thompson, Louisa, KY, Mr. & Mrs Verlin Finster, Peru, Ind., Mr. & Mrs. Anton Sapetta and Mr. & Mrs. Steve Cornwall of Thorp; and Medford residents, Mr. & Mrs. William Zenner, Mr. & Mrs. Felix Wood, Mr. & Mrs. Otto Galler and Mr. & Mrs. Art Smedegard.
