A native of Detroit, Williams signed with the Phillies in 1957 as an infielder. He hit .250 in 17 games with the Phils in 1961 and was claimed by the Colt .45s in the expansion draft. He played sparingly in 1962, playing in five games but getting 3-for-8 with a double and two RBIs in his brief appearance. He was then sent to St. Louis who sent him to Kansas City where he played 37 games and hit .209 in 37 games in 1964. Overall, he hit .230 in 59 big league games.
George Williams passed away on May 14, 2009 in Detroit of lung cancer at age 69.
