Glade Henry Butterfield, 85, formerly of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died April 30, 2008, after a long illness in Sandy, Utah, with his family around him. Private family services will be held at a later date. Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel is in charge of the local arrangements.

He is survived by his three sons, Paul Freida, Tim Jan, and Greg Lisa and families; and his two brothers, Keith and Alan and his much loved grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Elizabeth "Chris" Wilderspin Butterfield, and his parents.

Glade was born February 14, 1923, in Cedar Falls, Iowa, the son of Glade Henry Butterfield and Gean Lamb Hosteter. He spent the majority of his youth in much loved McGregor, Iowa. He proudly served as a Staff Sergeant in the Air Force 8th Attachment, during World War II. He met his wife, Chris, at a USO dance in England. They were married March 22, 1945, in St. Barnabas Episcopal Church in Cambridge. They returned to Iowa after the war, where he graduated from the University of Iowa.

He was the General Manager of Handler Motor Company for many years before becoming a partner at Paul C. McCoy Insurance. Glade loved boating and was a "people person". Glade spent many happy weekends in Guttenberg, on the Mississippi, with his family and friends. He loved music and was a member of the choir for many years of St. John's and Christ Church Episcopal.

Glade and his family are very grateful to the wonderful nurses and aides of Canyon Creek Assisted Living for their care.
