Silver Star Medal Citation: Raymond W. Johnson, 37098866, PFC, Co. E, 6th Armored Infantry Battalion, 1st Armored Division for gallantry in action. On January 28, 1943, PFC Johnson distinguished himself in action against an armed enemy in the vicinity of Ousseltia, Tunisia. Upon his own initiative, PFC Johnson worked his way to the crest of a hill under fire from enemy artillery to withdraw an abandoned 37 MM anti-tank gun to a position where it could be towed by a vehicle. This courageous action of PFC Johnson resulted in recovery of a valuable piece of equipment that might have fallen into the hands of the enemy. (Medal No. 19064)
