James Henry Bolden, Sr., 83, died unexpectedly at his home.

His life was taken along with his wife, Clover Bolden and daughter Delois Brown in a tragedy that has tremendously impacted the lives of their family in the community of Brooklyn Park, MN, as well as family members in East St. Louis, Illinois and surrounding communities.

James Henry Bolden, Sr. was born December 13, 1928 to Pearlie Royster and George Bolden and Clover Dale Davis-Bolden was born February 12, 1931 to Samuel and Thelma Jane Davis.

James and Clover accepted Christ and both were faithful in their services to the Lord until their passing. Mother Bolden was a faithful member of the St. Matthew's Baptist Church, East St. Louis, IL under the leadership of Reverend Lee Tyler, Pastor. Mother Bolden presided over the Mother's Board prior to leaving East St. Louis; she served on the Health Unit and was a Sunday School Scholar. In 2010, Mother Bolden received a Certificate of Appreciate from the Board of Directors of the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in recognition of seven years of honorable and highly valued support; she received a Certificate of Appreciation from the UNCF in recognition of her generous gifts as well as several other certificates of recognition.

Father Bolden was a faithful member of the New Bethlehem Baptist Church, East St. Louis, IL; under the leadership of Pastor Silas Mosby. He was a member of the Board of Trustees and the Usher Board. James, Sr. was the owner of Bolden's Bar-B-Que business for several years in the East St. Louis area, a landscaping business and several other business ventures. He retired from Rallo Construction Company, St. Louis, MO

James and Clover were childhood friends and both attended elementary and high school in Tuscaloosa, AL. They were united in Holy Matrimony November 14, 1950 and they were married for 61 years. To this union were born four children, Artis Lee Bolden, DeLois Bolden, Vincent Bolden (all preceded them in death) and James Howard Bolden of Minnesota. James , Sr. fathered four other children, James Henry Bolden, Jr. , Annie Pearl Bolden-Cooper, Cora Miles-Jones and Cassandra Bolden-Royston. Father and Mother Bolden were avid gardeners, enjoyed bar-b-ques, landscaping, father loved to fish, mother kept the picnics going, both enjoyed "CHURCHEN", but more importantly they enjoyed EACH OTHER. Their life together is a great example for their children and to married couples alike. James often would question how did they stay married so long and Daddy would say, "The secret to a successful marriage is I always put her first and she (mother) would always put me first."

They leave to cherish their memory their one brother, two sisters , children, and five generations of grandchildren: Booker T. Davis (Michigan), Olivia Davis-Moss, (Indiana), Annie Mae Foster (sister/aunt), (Alabama), James Howard Bolden (Deborah) (Minnesota), Cassandra Royston (Anthony) (Missouri). They had 107 grandchildren, 76 great-grandchildren, 9 great-great grandchildren as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended relatives and friends.
