Glen L. Harding, 81, of 1416 N. Van Buren Ave. died at 7:30 a.m. July 4, 2009, at his home.

He was born Dec. 8, 1927, in Eddyville, Iowa, to Fred and Christina Roberts Harding. He married Margaret Catherine "Cathy" Carter on May 6, 1950, in Ollie.

A graduate of Eddyville High School in 1946 he served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict stationed in Wichita, Kan. He started working as a brakeman for the Milwaukee Railroad which later became the Soo Line Railroad where he retired as a conductor after 41 years of service in 1988. He was a member of Pennsylvania Ave. Free Methodist Church where he finished most of the woodwork. He was a member of O.B. Nelson Post No. 3 American Legion, NARVE (Railroad Retirees), organizing the local Milwaukee Railroad coffee group. He enjoyed working at home.

Surviving is his wife, Cathy; two daughters, Ann (Tim) Youngman of Ottumwa and Amy (Allyn) Miller of Alburnett; two grandchildren, Allyson and Adam Miller; a brother, Gilbert (June) Harding, and a sister, Alice Mae Martin, both of Ottumwa.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Harold and John Harding

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Pennsylvania Ave. Free Methodist Church with Rev. Randy Stateler officiating. Burial will be in Ottumwa Cemetery with military services conducted by O.B. Nelson Post No. 3 American Legion and Walter B. Schafer Post No. 775 Veterans of Foreign Wars.
