Civil War Union Army Officer, US Congressman. He twice served during the Civil War as Colonel and commander of the 84th New York National Guard when the unit was federalized first to meet the crisis caused by the Confederate invasion of Pennsylvania in June 1863, and again from July to October 1864. He was elected as a Republican to represent New York's 6th District in the United States House of Representatives, serving from 1861 to 1863. (bio by: Russ Dodge)
