Donald Oscar Carlson, 73, of 7 Friendly Circle,Ottumwa passed away October 2, 2012 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.
Don was born November 29, 1938 in Ottumwa to Oscar L. and Udella Bleed Carlson. He was a graduate of Ottumwa High School, and joined the U.S.Army in 1959, serving until 1970. During his trme with the Army, he served in Thailand, Korea, Germany and two tours of duty in Vietnam as a Sgt. E6.
While in the service, Don met Carolyn Davis in Tooele, UT and they were married shortly after that in Ely, NV in 1961. They settled in Ottumwa after his discharge from the service.
Don worked for Lund's International for over 25 years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening and spending time with his family. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Surviving are his wife, Carolyn; a son, Eric(Christine)Carlson of Fairfield; a daughter, Katie(Aaron)Grandon of Cedar Rapids; twin granddaughters, Emma and Paige Carlson; and a sister, Beverly Scarborough of St. Louis, MO.
He was preceded in death by his parents; infant sister, Shirley; and a sister, Geri Davis.
His body has been cremated. Memorial services will be Noon Saturday, October 13, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Later Day Saints, Ottumwa, IA. Military services will be conducted by O.B.Nelson Post #3 American Legion and Walter B.Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars. In lieu of flowers, memorials may to made to the family.
Cremated, Location of ashes is unknown.
