He was born April 25, 1940 in Chariton, IA to Burl and Zelma Howk Brown. He married Sylvia "Bunny" Rocco on August 5, 1961. Merion served with the U.S.Air Force from 1958-1963. He worked for 38 years for Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad, retiring as engineer in 2002. He was a member of O.B.Nelson Post #3 American Legion and United Transportation Union Local #195.
Surviving are his wife, Sylvia; a son, Don L.(Marcie)Brown of Sacramento, CA; three grandchildren, Alison N. Brown and Jaacob A. Brown both of Des Moines, Steven R. Brown of Sacramento, CA; his mother, Zelma Brown of Ottumwa; three sisters, Carolyn Emberton and Margaret(Larry)Grooms both of Ottumwa, Kathy(Lloyd)Patrick of Dakota Dunes, SD; a brother, Mel L.(Pam)Brown of Alliance, NE.
He was preceded in death by his father, Burl Brown.
His body has been cremated.
Memorial services will be 1 pm Monday at Reece Funeral Home with Maurice Overturf officiating. Military services will be conducted by O.B.Nelson Post#3 American Legion and Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars. Memorials may be made to Hospice, Ottumwa, Iowa.
