Rex Lionel Bowersox, 86, of Bloomfield, died Sept. 18, 2010, at the Mahaska County Hospital in Oskaloosa.
He was born Dec. 7, 1923, near Cantril to Ira Leslie and Eunice Lenora Marie Hedges Bowersox. He married Louise Stewart Dec. 25, 1947 in Douds. He attended rural schools in Keokuk County before serving in the Navy during World War ll. He was a lifetime member of Reed Whisler Post #78 of the American Legion in Bloomfield. He was a farmer, school bus driver and retired after 16 years as a road maintainer operator for Davis County Secondary Roads. During his retirement he wrote and published two novels, "The Wings of Destiny"(a war story)and "The Revenge of Pride"(a western). Rex and Louise loved country music and they attended numerous music festivals together and made a host of friends. He was a member of the Bethlehem Church.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years; a daughter, Janet(Bill)Rominger of Bloomfield; a son, Ira Joe(Sheralyn)Bowersox of Bloomfield; three grandchildren, Jared Wayne(Emily)Bowersox of Milton, Randy(Tamra)Rominger of Bloomfield, Renettra Mendoza of Bloomfield; four great-grandchildren; and a brother, Keith(Vera)Bowersox of Omaha, Neb.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Alma Hedges Mathews Jacobs; and a brother, William Sanfred Bowersox, who was killed in service on Jan. 2. 1942.
At Rex's request, the body will be cremated and no service is planned. Codolences may be sent to his family at 202 Hillcrest Ave, Bloomfiled, Iowa 52537. Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield is assisting the family.
Cremated, Location of ashes is unknown.
