Jeffery Franklin Carpenter, age 43, of Centerville, Iowa, died Saturday, April 21, 2007 at Mercy Medical Center in Centerville. He was born the son of Jack Carpenter and Judy(Diamond)Hamlin on October 12, 1963 in Huntington, West Virginia. He received his education in Harrisburg, Virginia Community Schools. He was raised in Virginia and moved to Iowa in 1994.
On September 6, 1996, Jeff was united in marriage to Debra Carter in Centerville, Iowa. Jeff started at Iowa Steel and Wire in 1995 and worked there to the present. He enjoyed his work and being around his co-workers. He was a hard worker, no matter what the job was or what it required. He always gave more than he could and you would not hear him complain when someone needed him to stay a little longer to get a job done. He loved spending time outdoors, whether that was doing carpentry jobs with his father and brother-in-laws, or barbecuing up some chicken on the grill.
He collected knives and had several of all sizes and shapes. He would spend time working on his pulling tractor and even competed a few times at the local fairs. He didn't expect to win it was more for the enjoyment of being with friends. Jeff's family was what meant most to him. He truly loved his wife and two sons and was happiest spending time with them. He and his son, Mathew shared a love for collecting old model cars, it was something that Jeff had started even before Matt was born. They spent time together searching for that certain one that they needed to add to the collection. His son Jeffery, and him had a passion for wrestliing. He always treasured the time Jeffery traveled to see him and spent the summer. They had many memorable moments that Jeff frequently talked about. He was proud to be southern born and would often remind people that he was a southern boy thru and thru. He liked his southern rock music and a good shot of Wild Turkey. Jeff had a caring heart, a quick-witted sense of humor and always a loving and devoted husband, father and true friend.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents.
Jeff is survived by: his wife, Debra Carpenter of Centerville, Iowa; sons, Jeffery Carpenter of Virginia and Mathew Carpenter of Centerville, Iowa; his parents, Owen and Judy Hamlin of Virginia; brothers, Robert Hamlin of Ohio and Tommy Hamlin of Virginia; sisters, Tammy Hamlin, Diane Workman, Darla Dray and Tereasa Monney all of Virginia; and other family and friends to numerous to mention.
Memorial service will be held on Thursday, April 26, 2007 at 10 am at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville, Iowa. A memorial has been set for a Educational Fund for his Children.
