Captain Joseph (Frank) Marthers
Pacolet, SC - - Captain Joseph Franklin Marthers, 67, of 136 Myrtle Drive in the Goucher Community, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 5, 2011 at his residence. Born in Fairfield County, SC, he was the husband of Brenda Blackwell Marthers and the son of the late Frank Marthers and Aileen Yonn Marthers. He was retired from the United States Army, having faithfully served his country for 26 years with three tours in Vietnam. He was charter member of the Elite United States Army Green Berets, a mason, a member of Hejaz Shrine Temple in Greenville and a member of The Special Forces Decade Club. Mr. Marthers was a member of Goucher Baptist Church. In addition to his wife, also surviving is a son, Joseph Franklin Marthers II and wife, Holly of Pacolet; three daughters, Angela Varner and husband, Robert of Pacolet, Evetta Lawson and husband, Raymond of Pauline and Monica Hewell and husband, Michael of Pacolet; two brothers, Daniel Marthers and wife, Phyllis of Gaffney and David Marthers and wife, June of Pacolet; a sister, Emma Layton and husband, Tommy of Pauline; and ten grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 4:00 PM on Tuesday, March 8, 2011 at Goucher Baptist Church. Funeral services will immediately follow at 4:00 PM at the Church with Rev. Norman Gardner and Rev. Dennis Tessnier officiating. Interment will be in Goucher Baptist Church Cemetery with full military rites
