Gouverneur, May 30 - Edwin L. Washburn, a native of Gouverneur, died early yesterday morning at his home in Coopersville, Mich., following an illness of three weeks caused from pneumonia, aged 71 years. Mr. Washburn was born in the Peabody district of this town Dec 23, 1842, a son of Nehemiah and Catherine Thayer Washburn, early settlers. Shortly before the breaking out of the civil war he went west and located at Fon du Lac, Wis. It was there that he enlisted in the naby and served four years. During the war his parents and brothers located at or near Coopersville, Mich., and when mustered out of the service he also went directly there and did not come east again until eight years ago, when his oldest sister, Mrs. Lucinda Honeycomb died here. Mr. Wasburn was a wheelwright and carpenter and he folllowed both occupations more or less for many years, while not engaged at farming.

Besides his widow, he is survived by three daughters, and three brothers, Horace, Levi and Charles Washburn, all of Coopersville and vicinity, and one sister, Mrs. Melissa Smith, widow of Brayton N. Smith of West Main street, this village. Burial will be made at Coopersville tomorrow.
