Lifelong Anchorage resident, Whisper Faith Kovach, 7, died June 30, 1998, as a result of injuries sustained when struck by a motor vehicle on Lore Road. A visitation was held followed by a funeral at Greater Friendship Baptist Church with the Rev. Leon D. May officiating. Kevin Kovach, William Semonis, Joseph Semonis, Mike Baker, Keith Kutscher and Joseph W. Furtado served as pallbearers. Inurnment took place at Angelus Memorial Park.

Whisper was born May 13, 1991, in Anchorage. She completed kindergarten at Mountain View Elementary and first grade at Baxter Elementary. She was a member of Greater Friendship Baptist Church. Whisper received an academic achievement award for reading presented to her at Baxter Elementary School. She enjoyed ice skating, bicycle riding, swimming, playgrounds, friends, classical music, horses and channel 22, ''the cartoon channel.'' ''Whisper was the light of our life,'' said her family. ''She had an everlasting smile on her face. She found joy in the simplest events. She was always ready to meet a new friend and had no fear of strangers. She stole the heart of all who met her. We adore her still, and we will love her forever. She'll be in our hearts, minds, and thoughts for the rest of our lives. She is our very special, beautiful and precious daughter.''

Whisper is survived by her mother, Jerilyn Semonis of Anchorage; father, Kevin of Oklahoma; step-father, William Semonis; sisters, Kyralyn and Rebecca Hosler, and Emma Semonis; grandparents, Joycelyn Steele of Oakland, Calif., Joseph and Janice Furtado of Concord, Calif., Lois and John Repp of Lawton, Okla., and Zola Semonis of Berea, Ky.; adopted grandparents, Dale and Liana Hanson; great grandparents, Edith Moser of Smithfield, Pa., Charles Steele of Joplin, Mo., and Marguerite Jacques of Oakland; uncles, Mike Baker and Keith Kutscher; aunts and uncles, Joylyn Hans and Jea Marie Freitas of California, Jacquelyn Hernandez of Texas, Paul and Carol of Oklahoma, Joseph Semonis, Suzie Blair, and Monica Carmach of Kentucky; and many other relatives around the country. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to Whisper F. Kovach, c/o Denali Alaskan Federal Credit Union, Account # 32994, 400 West Benson, Anchorage, 99503. Arrangements were by Kehl's Forest Lawn Mortuary & Crematory.
