A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Hood Mortuary Chapel for Jennifer "Jenny" Dawn Alexander, who died Monday, Jan. 28, 2002, unexpectedly from a re-emergence of a childhood seizure disorder, while she was in Delaware. She was 27.
A reception will follow. Burial will be at Greenmount Cemetery.
Ms. Alexander was born June 1, 1974, in Denver. A chemistry doctoral candidate, she received numerous awards, including the 1999 International Precious Metal Industry Research Award, Outstanding Educator Award for teaching undergraduate chemistry courses at the University of Utah 1996-97, Outstanding Scholar Award from the Colorado State University Department of Chemistry and first place DuPont Plunkett Student Award. She was planning to receive her doctorate degree in May.
Fellow Chemistry alumni are currently working on awarding her the PhD degree posthumously from the University of Utah.
She is survived by her mother, Carolyn Sue Edlund, and adoptive father, Bruce Edlund of Phoenix; father Benton Lyle Alexander of Anchorage, Alaska; grandmothers Rae Pimley Haynes of Durango and Esther Edlund of Yuma, Ariz.; grandfather Alton Alexander of Three Rivers, Mich.; stepsister Christy Johnson of Hartsville, S.C.; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
