PORTSMOUTH - Lawrence Foley, 82, died Wednesday, May 3, 2006, surrounded by his family at the home of his daughter in Wellesley, Mass.
He was predeceased by his wife of 48 years, Dorothy (Hafey) Foley in 2003.
Born in Portsmouth on Dec. 22, 1923, he was the son of Timothy and Katherine (Sullivan) Foley.
Mr. Foley graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1941 and subsequently served in the Army during World War II, landing in Normandy, France, seven days after the invasion. He was a member of Portsmouth Country Club, and worked as a comptroller at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard for 35 years.
He was a parishioner of the Immaculate Conception Church in Portsmouth and St. John the Evangelist in Wellesley.
For the past three years he lived in Wellesley with his daughter, Carolyn and her husband, Dr. Frederick Hains, who cared for him in a period of failing health. He is also survived by his devoted son Lawrence "Pat" Foley, his wife, Kathleen and three grandchildren of Winchester, Mass.
Survivors also include several nieces and nephews.
He will be dearly missed by those who loved him.
In addition to his wife he was predeceased by his siblings, Katherine (Foley) Rafferty, John, Timothy George, and Noreen Foley.
WE REMEMBER: After his retirement he worked part time at the High-Hanover Parking Garage where he liked to let visitors know that Portsmouth truly was the City of the Open Door.
SERVICES: Calling hours will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the Farrell Funeral Home, 684 State St., Portsmouth. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at noon Friday in the Immaculate Conception Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Immaculate Conception Church, 98 Summer St., Portsmouth, NH 03801.
