He married first May Viola Gerrish on 18 April 1914 in Woodstock, Carleton, New Brunswick, Canada. Together they had six children.

He married second Opal Eva Gould on 23 September 23 September 1950 in Old Orchard Beach, York, Maine. They had no children together.

He was a farmer, shoe maker and a sheep farmer.

Carl was a dedicated Son, Brother, Father, Grandfather and Great Grandfather to all he connected with. In his elder years, he had a great farm in Dyer Brook which he ran with quiet efficiency, with his wife, Opal Gould White McLaughlin. They had a few cows for their milk and butter, and a large herd of sheep, which they raised for the wool that they sold. The farm was always the one vacation spot that his children and grandchildren and even some great grandchildren always went to. Those were some of the very best memories we all have.
