Lindsey Kavender Tinkle, along with Abner Burgin and several other Gibson County men, traveled with Davy Crockett when he went to Texas. By the time they reached the Texas border, the War for Texas Independence had started. Since Lindsey and Abner had come to settle land and not fight a war, they returned to Gibson County. Davy Crockett, however, joined the garrison defending the Alamo.
