Son of John and Elizabeth Greenleaf. His parents were previously recorded here as Stephen & Elizabeth Hill Greenleaf, but Stephen drowned with his boat and crew on Dec 1, 1690, and according to Newbury Town Records, John was born in 1692 or 1693. There were two John Greenleafs born in this time period, one to Capt. Stephen and the other to John both of whom had wives named Elizabeth; no maiden names given.
Hon. John Greenleaf was a member of he Great and General Court and of the Governor's Council of Massachusetts.

"We hear from Newbury, that on Thursday last, died there very suddenly the Hon. JOHN GREENLEAF, Esq., formerly one of his Majesty's Council for the province."
