Anders Jesperson Nielsen
Birth: Dec. 13, 1847, Denmark
Death: Sep. 25, 1916
Lincoln County
Minnesota, USA

Husband of Krestine Andersen

Anders Jespersen Nielsen was born Dec 13, 1847 near Aarhus, Denmark. He came to Clifton Illinois in 1872.

Soren Madsen Meyer was born Nov 9, 1852 in the same community. He came to America in 1884, also to Clifton Illinois. It is not know if these two men were acquainted in Denmark, but after they came to America they lived their lives close to one another. Anders Nielsen spent a short time in Iowa after being in Illinois, then he made a trip back to Denmark to visit his mother. Upon his return he came again to Illinois where he and Soren Meyer worked together digging tile ditches.

In the spring of 1886 they came to Lake Benton, where each purchased 80 acres of land. They also rented a farm close by know as the "Log house" farm. This was all paraie land and they had to break the sod with the use of Soren's 2 horses and Ander' 3 horses, together they ahd 50 and 70 acres respectively under cultivation the first year. At first they were bachelors with Anders baking the bread and Soren doing the cooking. However in 1887 Anders sold out to Soren and went back to Iowa. Soren continued farming alone for some time. He had a good harvest and in the meantime built a barn, granary and a room where he kept house by himself. It was lonely for him and not too long after this he became acquainted with Maren Andersen, a sister of Mathias Andersen, who together with her sister Kristine had come from Denmark. Maren worked at the Peter Linnet home ad it was while she was here, the she and Soren decided to marry.

Soren, though busy with his farm work, started building a house for his bride-to-be. It wasn't quite finished when one day he borrowed his neighbors "buggy" and together with Maren, Kristine and Mathias Andersen, drove t Tyler where he and Maren were married. Here, next to Danebod high school, in a small house, the wedding took place with Reverend H. J. Pedersen as the officiating pastor. Mrs. Pedersen served coffee to the wedding party and after they came back to Lake Benton a chicken dinner was served in the upstairs "apartment" over the barn where Peter Christensen and Mathias lived.

The next winter Anders Nielsen came back and stayed with the Soren Meyer family. Here he made the acquaintance of Mrs. Meyer's sister, Kristine. Anders and Soren did some trading with Mr. Detlef Petersen, who lived north of the Meyer farm, that enlarged their holdings and established Anders and Soren as close neighbors as usual.

On November 7, 1890 Anders Niesen and Kristine Andersen were married at the Soren Meyer home with Rev. Pedersen of Danebod officiating. These two families shared much together through the years. Two of their sons served together in France during WWI Christian Meyer and Niels Nielsen. Niles was badly wounded in the Battle of the Argonne Forest in October shortly before the Armistice was signed.
