EARLY PIONEER PASSES ON

Soren Madsen Meyer died at his home in Lake Benton Monday, August 18th, after a long and painful sickness. He was born in Aarhus, Denmark, November 9, 1852 and at the age of 32 years he immigrated to America. For two years he worked in the vicinity of Clifton, Illinois but in 1886 he came, at the call of some ministers in the Danish Lutheran Church, to help build a Danish colony near Lake Benton. He is one of the true pioneers who has spent a life's work helping to change the land from the unsettled, desolate prairie to the beautiful country of cultivated land and the homes of today. He located in Drammen township. In 1888 he was married to Miss Maren Andersen, and they lived at the home farm until 1915 when the moved into their new home in Lake Benton, leaving their old homestead to their Children's care

Soren Meyer was a good man and he will be missed by many. He has been sick for some time and in June he was taken to Fairview hospital, Minneapolis, and operated on for a tumor. He came back to his home again, but his strength was spent, and he died peacefully at his home surrounded by his wife and all his children. He leaves his wife, his true life companion of thirty six years and six children. Anna, Hans, Christian, Christine, Peter, and Ruth and four small grandchildren.

He was laid to rest at the Danish cemetery near the Danish Church in Diamond Lake Wednesday afternoon August 20th. Rev. Henrik Plambeck and Rev Goodmonson officiating. The funeral services were held in the Danish Church in Diamond at three o'clock.
