Sophia was the daughter of John A. and Mary (Welborn) Kivett. She married David Washington Moose about 1847 and they had nine children: Mary Alice, Cyrealus Monroe, John Kivett, Candas Caroline, Margaret M., James Foote, Thadeus Brower, Terrell Vance and Edgar W.

Mrs. Sophia Moose, widow of the late D. W. Moose, died, at the home of her grandson, Mr. R. K. Moose, on last Friday night, aged about 91 years.
Mrs. Moose was about the oldest woman in Alexander and has long been know, by her many friends, as Aunt Sophia.
She is survived by six sons and two daughters.
The funeral was conducted from the Baptist Church, by her pastor, Rev. L. P. Gwaltney, on Saturday and her remains laid to rest in the Village Cemetery.
