Maggie Louise Adams was the daughter of Charles A. Adams and Martha Blair Adams. She had 3 sisters, Annie, Dollie, and Carrie. She notes in the bible she gave her grandson that she was born at Stoyestown, Pennsylvania, USA, but her family soon moved to Illinois and her parents are buried there. On 31 July 1877, she married Lloyd Orville Shuman in Yates City, Illinois and they soon returned to his hometown of Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania, where Lloyd built a large farmhouse on land the family owned there.

Maggie and Lloyd's first child, Margaret Belle, was born in 1879, followed by twin sons John Rutter and Charles Adams, Willard Abraham, Mary Amanda, Frank Lloyd, Anna Caroline, George Washington,Jennie Elizabeth, and Edwern Carlton.

She was said to be a wonderful mother and grandmother and very dedicated to her family.
