"Ralph Victor Bowers, Jr, 88 of Georgetown entered into rest January 4, 2011 in a local hospital. There will be a memorial gathering at the Gabriels Funeral Chapel & Crematory at noon on Sunday, January 16, 2011, following that Ralph will be laid to rest with military honors at 1:00 p.m. in Llano Cemetery. Ralph was born April 2, 1922 to Ralph Victor, Sr. and Laura (Hahn) Bowers in Littlestown, PA. Growing up in that community, he played basketball for Littlestown High School and earned his Eagle Scout Award on Dec. 27, 1933. He joined the Army and served during World War II with Headquarters Company, 2nd Battalion, 326th Glider Infantry in the European Theater. After the war, Ralph married Betty Breighner in December of 1945 and enrolled in Penn State University where he earned his Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering. He went on to teach at Penn State for thirteen years in the evenings while working in private industry. Ralph worked for Ray Noonans Engineering, while there he designed the Haines Shoe House, which became a local landmark in York, Pennsylvania. He moved to Texas in 1982 and worked as an Engineer at Ft. Hood. He retired to Kingsland in 1986 and later moved to Llano and then to Georgetown for the past 11 years. Ralph is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Betty; and son, Ralph Chip, III. He leaves to cherish his memory daughters, Mary Laura Buss of Amberson, PA, and Lori Jane Bergthal of Georgetown; son, Gregory Neal Bowers of Dillsburg, PA.; twin sister, Ruthanna Phipps of Lancaster, PA.; brother, Richard Bowers of Hanover, PA.; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, and nephew, David Frock of Houston."
