Edward D. Halbert was the 11th child of 13 children,
son of Dr. Joel B. Halbert d Hickory Co., MO / Tirza Sherrill b NC d MO
Enlisted in 1864 in the Home Guards, was in active service for 2months.
He came west in 1873 at Milton and engaged as a sheep herder for one year, then went to the San Joaquin Valley.
In 1878 he bought 800 head of sheep, and until 1894 was interested in sheep raising. In 1881 he purchased his ranch, and was a farmer and a stock raiser. He was also a half owner in the Minnie Ellen mine from 1897 to 1901.
