Carol served during the Korean War. SP 3, U. S. Army

Carol Gibson, 77, of Cambridge City, died Saturday evening, June 25, 2011 at Reid Memorial Hospital, Richmond, Indiana.

A native of Knott County, Kentucky, Carol was born January 1, 1934 to Mallie and Latisha Hammonds Gibson. He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving with the U. S. Army. Carol was married in Connersville to Shirley Kay Gibson and then founded Town and Country Laundromat and Car Wash in Cambridge City. He retired in 1998. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Cambridge City where he served as Deacon, Trustee, Sunday School teacher and Sunday School Superintendent.

In addition to his wife of more than 50 years, Carol is survived by six children and their spouses: Deborah Kay and Terry, Mia Sue and Michael all of Connersville; Tina Carol and Jim of Franklin, Ohio; Rickey Allen and Beth of Milton; Cullen Scott and Mary of Marion; and Pastor Mal Derrick of Connersville; thirteen grandchildren and their spouses; 11 great grandchildren with another on the way. Siblings and their spouses: Sherrie Gibson of Hazard, KY; Goldie O'Neal and Chet of Connersville; George "Buzz" Gibson and Liz of Kissimmee, Florida; Sue Ellen Davidson and Russ of Louisville, KY; several nieces, nephews and countless friends.

In addition to his parents, Carol is preceded in death by a daughter, Rebekah Millicent who died in 1974; four sisters: Judy Karen, Lonnie, Jeanne and Clara; brother, Jack Elwood.

A Celebration of Carol's Life service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Myers Chapel, Connersville with son, Mal Gibson officiating. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday. Private graveside services with military honors will be conducted at Riverside Cemetery, Cambridge City, with Pastor Steve Richmond of Lexington, Kentucky officiating. Memorial contributions can be made to the Shepherd's Home and Ministry in Union Grove, Wisconsin.
