Carlos Castañeda, age 76, a life-long resident of Jarales, New Mexico, joined his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, January 3, 2007, surrounded by his loving family. Carlos was a member of Our Lady of Belén Catholic Church.
Carlos loved music and he and his wife, Emma, sang with the Jarales choir. Carlos would occasionally sing with the bands, Aguila, Suerte and Los Alegres at the Senior Citizen Centers. Carlos and Emma would go to the Senior Center faithfully on Tuesdays and Thursdays to attend the dances. Carlos enjoyed sports and was an avid New Mexico State University Aggies fan. His family was his life and his grandsons were a daily enjoyment to him, as he taught them about life and gave them guidance. Carlos enjoyed life and always had a smile on his face.
Carlos was preceded in death by his parents, Carlos and Luz Castañeda and brother-in-law, Robert Ortiz.
Carlos is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Emma of the family home, daughters, María Moya and her husband, Leo of Albuquerque, New Mexico and Lydia Medina and her husband, David of Jarales, very special and loving grandsons, John Medina of Albuquerque and Carlos Medina of Jarales, a very special and loving granddaughter-in-law to be, Amanda Macias of Albuquerque, sisters, Amalia Márquez and her husband, Trinidad of Phoenix, AZ, Jennie Ortiz of Cuyamunge, NM, Tina Sandoval her husband, Manuel of Albuquerque and Rose Chávez and her husband, Pete of Los Lunas; brothers, Dennis Castañeda of Santa Fé, David Castañeda and his wife, Marie of La Puebla, NM, Robert Castañeda and his wife, Roberta of Nambe, NM and Gerald Castañeda and his wife, Annie of El Rancho, NM, his grand puppy, Albie and many loving nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.
Special thanks to Father David Gallegos for administering last rites, Steve Aragón for bringing Jesus to him every Sunday and to Heartland Hospice, especially his nurse, Julane Frederick.
Services will be held at Our Lady of Belén Catholic Church on Friday, January 5, 2007 beginning with a viewing at 6:30 p.m. followed by a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. A final visitation will be held on Saturday, January 6, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Belén Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Joe Aragón Jr., Frank Baca Jr., Wilfred Baca, Orlando Gonzáles, Demetrio "Johnny" Medina, Edwin Padilla, Eloy "Duke" Padilla and Frank Rivera. Honorary pallbearers will be Leo Moya, David Medina, John Medina, Carlos Medina, Dennis Castañeda, David Castañeda, Robert Castañeda, Gerald Castañeda, Trinidad Márquez, Manuel Sandoval, Pete Chávez, Eloy Aragón, Joe Lucero, Manuel Gabaldón and Steve García.
