Burton Curtis Andrus was born to Hermione née Hill, age 28, and Frank Burton Andrus, age 33. Burton at the age of 23, was joined in holy matrimony to Katharine Elizabeth née Stebbins, age 25, on April 12, 1916, in Buffalo, New York. They were able to celebrate 56 years of union together. They were blessed with four children during their marriage, the first arriving in September of 1917. By that time, Burton was already a 2nd Lieutenant serving in the Officer Reserve Corps, of the U.S. Army. By December, of that same year, the United States had declared war on Germany. Burton found himself activated from the reserves to active duty.
