Started work as an actor in Germany and moved to America in the mid-1930's to escape the Nazi government.

Played in American anti-Nazi propaganda films under the name of Robert O. Davis.

Appeared in films like Champagne Waltz (1937) as Emperor Franz Joseph, Knute Rockne All American (1940), The Great Dictator (1940) with Charlie Chaplin, To Be or Not to Be (1942), Sherlock Holmes and the Voice of Terror (1942), Sherlock Holmes and the Secret Weapon (1942), The Strange Death of Adolf Hitler (1943), The Hitler Gang (1944), Adventures of Superman (TV series), Rocky Jones, Space Ranger (TV series) as Dr. Loran, King Richard and the Crusaders (1954), A Star Is Born (1954) with Judy Garland, The Snow Creature (1954), Alfred Hitchcock Presents (TV series), The Walter Winchell File (TV series), She Demons (1958), The Third Man (TV series), Alcoa Presents: One Step Beyond (TV series), and The Man from U.N.C.L.E. (TV series).
