Nazi Hitler Youth leader.
In 1928, he founded the first Hitler Youth group in Westphalia.
Awarded the German Order, the highest decoration that the Nazi Party in 1944.
Took part in the final battle of Nazi Germany in Berlin with the Soviet forces closing in on the capital.
Was with Adolf Hitler in the Führerbunker.
Left the Führerbunker on May 1st, 1945 (a day after Hitler's suicide) with SS Doctor Ludwig Stumpfegger and Hitler's secretary Martin Bormann. Both Stumpfegger and Bormann committed suicide the next day, but Axmann escaped.
Arrested in December of 1945, he was sentenced to three years and three months as a 'major offender' in prison.
Became a prosperous businessman after the war and his sentence.
Many Fourth Reich conspiracy theorists belief that Axmann was lying about Bormann suicide saying that he was throwing off the authorities so Bormann could escape to South America with other Nazi officials.
Arthur Axmann passed away in 1996.
