Death: Aug. 16, 2011

Georgie Marie Freeman, better known as Joy, was granted her angel wings on Tuesday, Aug. 16, 2011 in her home in Littleton, Colorado after being diagnosed with adult onset Leukemia at the age of 87.
Born Dec. 30, 1923, in Texhoma, Okla., she was the youngest of six children born to Traber and LaNora (Gwin) Foster. The family lived 17 miles outside of Texhoma for the first years of her life.
In 1935 during a terrible dust storm they moved to LaCygne, Kan. where she graduated from LaCygne High School. She played the trombone and was a member of the glee club. After graduation Joy worked for Robinson Coal Company until 1944 when she and life long friend Wanda Lee (Bendure) Jackson moved to Washington DC to work for the United States Treasury Department "to seek fame and fortune". She jokingly admitted they didn't find either.
In 1947 she visited her brother Howard and his wife Mary in California, where she was introduced to Ray Ladell Freeman who was asked to show her around. Joy eventually moved to California where she and Ray began a courtship.
According to her they "disagreed" about everything. In 1949 after accepting Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior, Ray proposed for a second time and on March 4, 1950 in Los Angeles, they were united in marriage. She gave birth to four boys (God bless her) before moving to Guymon, in 1966.
Joy was a Sunday School teacher in the four year old department and secretary for the First Baptist Church in Guymon where she remained until retirement in 1995. She moved to Keller, Texas and then to Littleton, Colo. for her final years of life.
Joy's niece, Cherilyn, said it best, "Aunt Joy was always young at heart." She loved being on the go….movies, plays, dining out, getting pedicures, helping her great grandchildren build lego sets, getting her hair done, birthday parties, and mochas and milkshakes! There was never a holiday or an event that you didn't get a card from her! Her last days were spent having fun, laughing, and sharing stories with family and friends.
Joy was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 40 years; a grandson, John Freeman; three brothers, Howard Wilson, George Lyle and William Marshall Foster and one sister, Lois Jean Mason.
Joy is survived by her sister, Mildred Virginia Howard of Tyler, Texas; four sons, Gary Ray and wife Pam of Fairland, Okla., James Traber and wife Betty of Anaheim, Calif., Glenn Lee and wife of Keller, Texas, and Arthur William of Littleton, Colo.; eight grandchildren, Amy Jon and husband Jeff Bourcy of Littleton, James Ladell Freeman of Sedalia, Colo., Farrah Michelle Freeman of Fort Collins, Colo., Eric Ray Freeman of Anaheim, Stevie Michelle and husband Will Rowe of Chapel Hill, N.C., Ashley Beth Freeman of Keller, Nathan Arthur Freeman of Oklahoma City, and Amy Catherine Freeman of Keller; four great-grandchildren, Traber Foster, Hayden Farrell and Keeley Jon Bourcy of Littleton, and Jasmin Lynn Daggett of Sedalia, Colo.; two special grandchildren, Micah and husband Zach Laymon and son Caleb of Honolulu, Hawaii and Kendra and husband Coby Moke and children Maddux and Maggie of Las Vegas, Nevada; Special ones, Montee Sue and Marshall Miller of Angel Fire, N.M. and Jim and Loretta Lesley of Mena, Ark.; and lifelong friend of over 70 years, Wanda Lee (Bendure) Jackson of Leawood, Kan.; and many other extended family members and friends whose company she greatly enjoyed.
Services will take place Saturday, Oct. 15 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Guymon, with Pastor Gary Stone officiating. The family will receive friends after the service during a fellowship luncheon provided by the church. In lieu of flowers, Joy requested memorial contributions be made to the First Baptist Church Youth Group of Guymon.
