Evanda Lee Rhea Sallinger, 62, passed away Friday, September 10, 2004, at Bay Medical Center with her family by her side. Evanda was born in Greenville, FL and moved w/her parents to Bay County, spending most of her school years in Lynn Haven, FL. She graduated from Bay High School in 1960 and earned an Associate of Arts degree at Gulf Coast Community College in 1962. On April 20th of that year, Evanda married her husband who was in the Air Force at Tyndall AFB, FL, and she traveled throughout the world during his military career. During those years she was employed at various radio stations as a program manager. Assisting Mr Paul Harvey at WPCF in Panama City was a memorable occasion for her. When her husband retired from the military, they moved to Nebraska where they stayed for two years. While there, she became interested in nursing while working as a nursing home aide until they returned to Lynn Haven, FL. Evanda returned to college life at Gulf Coast Community College where she earned her Registered Nursing degree and worked in the nursery Neo-Natal Unit at Gulf Coast Hospital for the next ten years. When an ankle injury limited her ability to continue her nursing career, Evanda pursued her joy and passion for creating watercolor and oil paintings, making crafts, developing graphic designs, internet websites, and passed her creative legacy to her children and grandchildren.
Preceding her in death are her beloved parents, Lysle E and Jeraldine C Rhea. Evanda is survived by her husband of Lynn Haven, FL; 3 sons, a daughter-in-law, 3 grandchildren.
This tribute celebrates the beautiful life of one who delighted in laughing, joking, showering her family w/love, sharing her faith, standing tall for her Southern heritage, honoring her country, defending its military, being our resident doctor, glaring at ignorance, ranting on insensitivity, hugging hurts and spending late nights emailing back and forth to wile away hours of loyal and unchanging friendship. She was a wife, mother, grandmother, nurse, artist, proud Floridian, loved the Smoky Mtns, and longed each winter for Florida snow. She spoke so often of her beloved parents and enjoyed researching her ancestry. What a reunion they must've had Sept 10th. For several months Van had been going through the house cleaning out rooms, closets and drawers, packing in preparation for the move to their new home. At the same time she was organizing thoughts of their travels as retirement approached. In retrospect, what an enlightened analogy and foretaste of what lay immediately ahead for our dear sister and friend!
