Hettie Louise Thompson was the eldest daughter of Louisa Matilda (Burkhart) Thompson Foster and David M. Thompson of Albany, Oregon. Born on June 25th, 1859 in Albany, she was just like her mother in that she didn't like her 1st name, Harriett, and always went by Hettie. After she completed college, she married Dr. Charles Ritchey Templeton, originally of the Brownsville, Oregon Templetons and three children were born to them. A son died in infancy in 1882. Charles Edward was b.1887 and Marguerite was b.1897. The family made their home in Portland, Oregon where her husband practiced dentistry. Between @1888-1907, her mother, Loueasa, widowed for a 2nd time, lived with them. Charles Edward attended college to become a dentist like his father. In 1911, Dr. Charles Ritchey Templeton, his wife, Hettie and their daughter, Marguerite went abroad, traveling thru the Orient and Russia. Later, Marguerite attended University of California at Berkeley, studying French. She did graduate work at Columbia University in New York and received her Masters Degree from University of California. She taught French at UC Berkeley, which is where I believe she met Professor Laurence E. Dodd and they married in 1929. Her grandmother would have been proud of her, had she lived, but Louesa had passed in January of 1907. Upon her death, she was buried with Marguerite's grandfather under the name "Louesa Templeton" at the Masonic Cemetery in Albany. Charles passed from this life in 1934. Hettie then moved to Los Angeles, CA, where her daughter and son-in-law lived, as Professor Dodd taught Physics at UCLA for 33 years. He was a member of the Masonic Order and they belonged to the Beverly Hills Community Church. Hettie stayed there until her death in 1940. Her remains were returned to Portland, Oregon so she could be buried with her baby and beloved first husband at River View Cemetery in SW Portland. Her 2nd husband, James Hearst Foster, was buried with his 1st wife, Martha Jane Gray Foster, in Riverside Cemetery, Albany, Linn County, Oregon.
Marguerite and Laurence Dodd never had children. Upon their deaths, they were cremated and interred with her parents and her baby brother. Dr. Charles E. Templeton married Lavinia and they lived in Seattle, Washington. It is not known whether they had children or where they are buried (except that River View Cemetery has been ruled out as of May, 2011).
