George Osborne Chenault, 85, of Rancho Mirage, Calif. passed away surrounded by his loving family. George was born on October 09, 1925 in Tulsa, Okla.; he was the fifth of eight children raised by Bruce and Clara Chenault in Tulsa. After completing the 12th grade, George entered the Merchant Marines serving on a ship that toured the Asia Pacific in World War II. He also served another tour of duty in Korea with the U.S.Army where he earned a medal for his distinguished service. After World War II, George landed on the docks of San Francisco and began a lifetime of adventure in the San Francisco Bay Area. George had a successful career with Safeway Corporation as a store manager in several locations across both California and Hawaii. In 1948, George met Lloyd Samuel (Larry to all his friends) Lawrence, who became the most significant person in his life. They scrimped and saved creating a life together. Each of them encouraged the other's interests in music, books, ballet, art, cooking, gardening, and opera, always on the lookout for a great bottle of wine. They shared good times with a wide variety of friends in San Rafael, Calif. where they lived for many years. In 1999, they made their home in Palm Springs with their parrot, Ni?o. The two of them traveled widely throughout Europe and Asia, learning more about people, culture, collecting arts and crafts creating a memorable collection. Larry and George were friends, fellow travelers on life's journey and so much more for 60 years until Larry's passing in 2008. In 2009, George relocated to Rancho Mirage where he enjoyed time with fellow family members who also moved to the area later that same year. George generously donated to the Smile Train Foundation. He enjoyed cooking, entertaining, gardening, helping others, and taking on nearly any project that would beautify his or a loved one's surroundings. George's generosity, wisdom, tasteful aesthetic, ready smile and playful sense of humor will be greatly missed by his family of siblings, their children, and all who knew him.

To one of the most understanding men that ever walked our planet. Those who knew him wil sorely miss him. He had love in his heart for everyone. Rare indeed.
