Nora was the daughter of Albert G. McGee and Ann Mary "Annie" Hiter. She married Samuel Ratcliffe Cardwell on March 24, 1897, in Shelby County, Kentucky. They were the parents of Thelma, Roger Allen, Anna E., Ada Isabelle "Ada Belle", Samuel Lloyd, and Sarah Frances Cardwell.

The Louisville Courier Journal, Sunday, June 29, 1952:

MRS. NORA CARDWELL

Mrs. Nora Cardwell, 80, died at 11:45 a.m. yesterday at her home, 1401 S. Brook. A native of Woodford County, she was a member of the Fourth Avenue Methodist Church. Survivors include two sons, S. Lloyd Cardwell and Roger Cardwell; three daughters, Mrs. R. D. French, Mrs. Ann Noble and Miss Ada Cardwell; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. The funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. tomorrow at Owen Funeral Home. Burial will be in Grove Hill Cemetery, Shelbyville.
