KILLEEN — Services for retired Maj. James Leonard "Jim" Ashworth, 84, of Temple, formerly of Killeen and Salado, will be 1 p.m. Thursday at the First Baptist Church of Salado with the Rev. Pat Anderson officiating.
Burial with military honors will be 3 p.m. at Central Texas State Veterans' Cemetery in Killeen.
Mr. Ashworth died Sunday, March 20, at this home.
He was born on Dec.19, 1926, to Harry and Virgie Elizabeth Lathan Ashworth in Port Arthur. He attended school in Beaumont. He married Dorothy "Dot" Whitis. After 20 yers in the Army, he retired at Fort Hood. Following retirement, he owned and operated B&W Insulation in Killeen for 20 years. From 1979 to 2008, he and his wife lived in Salado, where he was deacon of the First Baptist Church. In 2008, he and his wife moved to Temple and were members of the Taylor's Valley Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Brenda Ray of Belton and Sheree Hunter of Salado; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the Salado Baptist Church building fund, 201 S. Main Place, Salado TX 76571, or to the National Parkinson Foundation, P.O. Box 5018, Hagerstown MD 21741.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home in Killeen.
