He was known to family members as "JW" or "JW, Jr." and to his nieces and nephews as "Uncle Jack."

He was married to Dorothy Mae (ODUM) BEACHAM on 6 Aug 1957 at the Memorial Baptist Church, 2554 Ann Arbor, Dallas, Dallas County, Texas.

They were the parents of one child whose name and approximate birth year are shown below.

1958 Debra Sue DICKINSON

Jack DICKINSON's great grandfather was Dr. Samuel Burling DICKINSON (1804-1881) who was descended from four passengers aboard the maiden voyage of the Mayflower from England to America in late 1620. Samuel Burling DICKINSON is therefore a qualifying ancestor for membership in numerous lineage orgainzations including the General Society of Mayflower Descendants, the John Howland Society, the Sons of the Republic of Texas, the Daughters of the Republic of Texas, and Texas First Families.

Jack DICKINSON's great grandmother was Caroline Elizabeth KINNISON (1818-1926) who lived under four flags in Texas and who, at the time of her death at age 107 in 1926, was believed to have been the oldest living resident of Texas at that time. Caroline was descended from Nathaniel KINNISON, a prominent planter and land owner in the Natchez, MS area in the late 18th century and early 19th century.

Jack DICKINSON's mother, Willie Mae WOODWARD was directly descended from Jacob CASTLEMAN who was a veteran of the Texas Army during the war for independence from Mexico. Jacob's name is shown on the plaque at the San Jacinto Monument identifying him as a veteran of the Battle of San Jacinto. Willie Mae's maternal grandfather was Jacob MCCLURE (1853-1939) who was named for his mother's uncle, Jacob CASTLEMAN and whose MCCLURE ancestors were from Ireland.

[Note that on JWD, Jr.'s birth record, his father's name was incorrectly recorded as James Wesley DICKINSON. JWD, Jr.'s father was in fact John Wesley DICKINSON, whose identical twin brother was James Lesley DICKINSON]
