After retiring to Florida, wife Lydia Olive Parks Jermann died 08 Apr 1942. Ambrose married Eleanor Snyder [Leto] in 1944 in Broward, FL. Divorced in Hillsboro, FL in 1954. Ambrose returned to Waterloo to be close to his son Lyle and family. Lyle buried Ambrose in Waterloo, Iowa, then had Olive's body returned to Waterloo where she was buried beside Ambrose.

Funeral services for Ambrose Jermann, 93, regarded as Black Hawk county´s oldest war veteran, will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Kearns-Dykeman Chapel. He died at 1:30 a.m. Tuesday of a stroke at Allen Convalescent home where he resided five years.
Born in Weiler, Alsace-Lorraine, France [sic, Germany], July 18, 1870, Mr. Jermann came to the United States in 1882, settling in the Remsen area. He served in the cavalry and hospital corps in the Spanish-American War in a unit commanded by Col., later president, Theodore Roosevelt. He married Lydia Parks in 1902 at Danbury.
From 1903 to his retirement in 1933 he was a rural mail carrier at Remsen. He moved the year he retired to Tampa, Fla., and resided there until 1958, when he came to Waterloo. Mr. Jermann was a member of Gen. Joe Wheeler Camp No. 2, United Spanish War Veterans of Tampa. He was also a member of Siba Lodge 463 AF&AM, and of Valley of Sioux City Scottish Rite, both of Marcus. In 1961, Mr. Jermann was awarded the 50-year pin of the Masonic Order.
Surviving are a son, Lyle E. Jermann, and a grandson, Jon, both of 1028 Independence Ave. He was preceded in death by his wife and parents. Friends may call after 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Kerans-Dykeman Chapel.
