Robert David Buck, age 59, died peacefully in the presence of his wife and family in the early hours of October 8, 2009 at the hospice facility of the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN following a brief illness. He was the beloved husband of Cindy Jevne Buck.
Rob was born in Battle Creek, MI on October 3, 1950, and was the son of the late David L. Buck and Jeanne (Methot) Buck-Winer. Rob graduated from Pennfield High School in 1968. He received a B.S. in Physics from Michigan State University. He worked at HRB-Singer in State College, PA and Lear- Seigler in Grand Rapids as a software engineer.
In 1985 he moved and received his M.S. in Computer Science at Maharishi International University. For the past 15 years he worked in Fairfield for a Seattle-based Intermec Technologies Corp., a manufacturer of hand-held computers. A software architect, Rob rose to the position of Senior Technical strategist specializing in the field of Radio Frequency Identification. He was active in international standards work, with responsibilities that often took him overseas.
An avid windsurfer, Rob traveled regularly to the meccas of wind with a band of surfing buddies. He was a pilot, and for many years owned a plane and made innumerable trips around the Midwest with family and friends. He was happiest "in any moving vehicle" and spending time with friends in Fairfield and family in Battle Creek. He loved long walks in the woods with Cindy and his best canine friend, Tucker, and movie nights with his "adopted son" Sylvio (Charly) Crone of Fairfield and Cologne, Germany.
Rob is survived by his wife Cindy (married June 6, 1992), mother Jeanne, siblings Lynda (Carl) Atteberry of El Paso, TX, Douglas (Rita) Buck of Kentwood, MI; Gregory (Vicki) Buck of Battle Creek; Stuart Buck of Battle Creek; Scott (Diane) Buck of Battle Creek, aunts and uncles Christine (David) Harmelink of Grand Rapids, MI and Richard (Betsy) Buck of Cincinnati, OH and many beloved nieces and nephews and their children. He was preceded in death by his father, David and his grandparents.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial service was held Sunday, October 18, 2009 in Dalby Hall in the Argiro Center of Maharishi University of Management in Fairfield, IA. A memorial Service will also be held in Battle Creek, Sunday, 3:00 p.m., October 25, 2009 at the First United Methodist Church, 111 E. Michigan Ave. with Rev. Billie Dalton officiating. Memorial contributions may be given to the church.
