PLEASANT GARDEN, NC - William H. "Bill" Barton passed away on May 3, 2006 after a lengthy illness.
The funeral service for Mr. Barton was held at 2 p.m. today at Pleasant Garden Baptist Church. The interment was at Lakeview Memorial Park. Arrangements were by Forbis & Dick.
A native of Calhoun, GA, he was born September 20, 1927, the only child of Cora Lee Scott and Wayman H. Barton.
After graduation from Marietta (GA) High School and working at Bell Aircraft (now Lockheed Martin), Bill entered North Georgia College in Dahlonega. He graduated from Southern College of Pharmacy in Atlanta (now Mercer University School of Pharmacy) in 1949. He also received an Honorary Doctorate in Pharmacy, was a member of the NC Pharmacy Association, and was a past member of the Guilford County School Board and the Pleasant Garden Lions Club. He was a devoted member of Pleasant Garden Baptist Church.
He met and married Ollie McIntyre of McLeansville, NC, in 1948, and they moved from Georgia to Greensboro in 1951. She passed away in 1996.
Bill first worked for Edmonds Drug Store in Greensboro and in 1954 opened Pleasant Garden Drug Store which he owned and operated for 37 years.
Mr. Barton married Mildred "Jimmi" Dunham of Pleasant Garden in 1997. She survives Bill, along with his children, Pamella Houglan (C. F.) of Stoney Creek, Katherine McClellan (George) of Oak Ridge, and Scott Barton of Pleasant Garden. Bill also is survived by stepchildren Danny Dunham (Cathy) of Climax, Cathy Deal (Griff) of Asheville, and Keith Dunham (Kim) of Climax; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
