EDEN, NC — Mr. Cecil Ray Barker, 81, of 6416 Cascade Mill Road in Cascade, VA passed away on Friday afternoon, November 12, 2010.
The funeral service was held at 2 pm on Tuesday at Leaksville Moravian Church. Interment followed at Ridge View Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Barker was born in Bassett, VA on June 9, 1929, a son of Barney Fidel and Geneva Anderson Barker, both deceased.
During the Korean War, he served in the US Army 45th Infantry Division, 279th Infantry Battalion, Company E, First Platoon. He entered service on January 21, 1951. He entered Korea on Christmas Eve of 1951 and entered the War on an outpost on New Year's Eve a week later. He was discharged on October 21, 1952.
He was a retired manager of Industrial Engineering for Fieldcrest Cannon, and was a member of Leaksville Moravian Church for over 46 years. He was a member of the Ruritan Club, and was a volunteer fireman.
He is survived by his daughter, Patricia Gee (Earl) of Danville, VA; his sons, Phillip Barker (Teresa) of Salem, VA, Keith Barker (Lourdes Eva) of Burlington, NC, Douglas Barker (Lorna) of Charleston, SC, and Scott Barker (Teresa) of Plano, Texas; his sisters, Doris Stovall, Phyllis McMillan and JoAnn Spencer; his brother, Roger Barker; and his 15 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Bryant Barker who passed away in 2003, his brother, William Eugene Barker, and his sister, Juanita Johnston.
