James M.(Jim) Queen, 74, died Saturday morning at a local rest home after a long illness. He resided at 3804 Penn.
Mr. Queen was born at Kelly, Kan., and had resided in St. Joseph since 1933, coming here from Wathena.
Formerly, he was the owner of Jim Queen's Tavern at Fourth & Maple, later owned the Apex-Buffalo at 412 Edmond and in more recent years was a real estate salesman for the Eder Agency.
In his early years he was active in semi-pro baseball and had his own team known as Jim Queen's Place.
His wife, Catherine Mae Queen died in July,1955.
Mr. Queen is survived by a brother, William H. Queen, St. Joseph; a sister, Evelyn Hart, St. Joseph,and nieces and nephews. One niece, Mary L Queen, lives at the home.
Seven brothers and a sister preceded him in death.
Services will be Monday at 3 at the Meierhoffer-Freeman Chapel. The Rev. Charles R. Hagee will officiate and burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
