Opal's father, Zachary Taylor Clay was a school teacher and this position required many moves in the Upper Snake River Valley, around the vicinity of Rexburg and Archer. He taught school 18 years.
When Opal was six years of age, her father and mother were divorced and she lived with her mother at Sunnydale for seven years. Her High School days were spent in Idaho Falls, graduating in 1923.
When Opal was nineteen, her mother died, so Opal lived with her sister, Floy Clay Green, at Blackfoot, where she met her first husband, Ray Williman Haws.
It was while she was living in Blackfoot that she was baptized and confirmed a member of the LDS Church. Ray Williman Haws baptized her in September, 1926, in the canal that runs in front of the Sugar Factory in the old 1st Ward of Blackfoot. They were married 18 March 1926 and sealed in the Logan temple in September 1926.
About 1933, Ray and Opal moved to Idaho Falls, Route #3, where they lived on a ranch until 1938, when they were divorced, and Opal married Randall Vanyle Campbell 24 August 1938 at Dillon, Montana.
They made their home around Shelley and Firth where he worked on a ranch for J. Berkley Larsen at Firth. They also spent six months in Pocatello working for the Union Pacific railroad.
Opal's father played the violin, having played for many dances. Opal was beautiful singer, was very apt at sight-reading and had a voice true to pitch. She acted as chorister in Primary, MIA, and Sunday School in Blackfoot 1st Ward. Also as chorister of MIA and Primary in Ammon. She acted as Literary Class Leader of Relief Society in Blackfoot. They lived in California several years, where they were divorced.
